Nudibranch

I tend not to think of anything pretty when I hear the word slug (in fact I think of dull slimy things that would be best avoided*).

But the Nudibranchs, a type of sea slug, come in an incredible variety of shape, size and coloration. They either use camouflage to hide from predators or go the opposite route and develop bright colors and patterns to warn everyone to stay the heck away from their toxic emanations. And their name means ‘naked gills’, because they have plumes of feathered gills and horns on their backs.

With the Nudibranch we conclude this segment on the Phylo Coral Reef card set illustrations and I’m happy to say that although they were neither in stock nor in production as a card set when I started sharing our images, they are now well on their way to being reprinted and available to the general public. It works as a great game for kids to play and learn about the real world at the same time, and as soon as I have links to where they may be purchased I will let you know!
